Whereas:Under current law in New York, gun owners can be sued and prosecuted by criminals simply for defending themselves and their loved ones against a criminal attack; and
Whereas:Under current law in New York, even if you survive a violent attack on your life you have no civil protections, which oftentimes results in you having to spend hundreds of thousands of dollars to defend yourself all over again in the courtroom; and
Whereas:Law-abiding gun owners should be able to exercise their God-given right to self-defense -- without fear of facing prosecution or bankruptcy; and
Whereas:A Stand-Your-Ground law would simply allow law-abiding gun owners in New York the right to defend themselves and their loved ones against criminal invasion without facing prosecution; and
Whereas:Gun owners in 36 other states already have this law on the books, including three new states in just the last three years;
Therefore:On behalf of law-abiding gun owners all over New York, I urge you to cosponsor and seek record, roll call votes on Stand-Your-Ground legislation.
